Pocket – Offline mode

Many restaurants use terraces or are located in buildings with complex architecture to accommodate their customers, and Wi-Fi coverage can be tricky in some cases!

In this article, we will explain how Pocket Offline mode can provide additional help in these situations:

  • What is offline mode?
  • How do I set up offline mode?
  • How does offline mode work?

What is offline mode?

Offline mode introduces queue management for preparation slips on the pocket device, in order to manage loss of WiFi connection in the event of poor coverage.

This feature offers several advantages:

  • Avoid interrupting service in the event of a network outage
  • Gain flexibility, especially for large terraces or areas with a lot of interference.
  • Identify weak areas to optimise your network coverage

How to set up offline mode

In the POS settings menu, you will find a tab labelled Pocket Offline Options.

You can set the maximum number of tickets (documents) allowed in the queue, in our example 10.

Please note: We recommend not exceeding this number.

The more you increase the number of pending documents allowed, the greater the impact will be on the kitchen, which will receive all the preparation orders when you reconnect.

You also have notification options:
  • By vibration
  • By bip

You will receive a notification each time the pocket takes an order in offline mode to alert you and encourage you to return to an area covered by the network.

How offline mode works

The Pocket automatically switches to offline mode when it loses its network connection. An icon appears in the top left corner with two red crossed-out antennas.

In our example below, you can see eight pending documents displayed under the grey exclamation mark.

The Pocket reconnects automatically as soon as it is in a covered area and sends all pending documents to clear the queue.

Once the queue has reached its maximum capacity, the app will no longer accept additional orders and will ask you to return to an area covered by the Wi-Fi network so that the orders can be sent to the kitchen.

As you can see, offline mode offers you greater convenience, but good network coverage remains essential for your order taking to function optimally!
