What it is
The Onboarding Wizard onboards a new customer into Restomax from the back office. Before it, onboarding was only possible from a tablet with the Restomax app installed.
It runs in the Partner Portal, in three steps:
| Step | What it covers |
| 1. Installation Type | Whether this is a fresh install or an addition to an organisation that already exists. |
| 2. My Business | The contact, the company, the store, and the name of the till. |
| 3. My Options | Which product (Restomax, Kitchenmax, Kiosk), how the database is wired, and what kind of establishment this is. |
Create license at the end creates the company, the store, the cash register with its matrix template, and a demo license.
Where it lives
The wizard is a Partner Portal tool, so it is reached without connecting as a shop. Two entry points lead to it:

- Licenses > New license in the navigation, always available.
- The New license button above any license list, for example Licenses > Demo.
Both open the wizard on its own full page.
How it behaves
Like a wizard: Next only opens the following step once the current one is correctly filled. All three steps sit on one page, the ones ahead of the current step blurred until they are reached.

Step 1: Installation Type
Two options:
- Free: a fresh installation. It creates a new company, a new store and a new cash register, with a demo license.
- Add to Existing Organisation: the new device joins a business that already runs on Restomax.

From the Partner Portal, Free is preselected and the second card is greyed out, and the wizard opens scrolled to step 2.
Step 2: My Business
User Type
Partner is preselected and Private Individual is disabled. The signed-in account is a partner organisation, so the answer is already known.

Contact Information
Prefilled from the signed-in account. Last Name and Phone complete the record, both required, and the phone field carries a country prefix (Belgium by default) so a national number formats itself.
Company Information, and the VAT lookup
New entity is the flow here, since Existing entity is greyed out from the Partner Portal for the same reason as step 1.
Check activates as soon as the VAT number field holds a complete number, and runs two checks in one go:
- Whether the number is available for a new installation.
- Whether the number is known to the official VAT registry.

When the number is found, the registered name and address appear in a confirmation dialog, under VAT found!. Yes copies them into the form.

The field turns green with Valid: , and Company Name, Street, Zip Code and City arrive from the register. Country locks to the country the number belongs to. Two fields remain manual:
- Email: the company's address, used for the entity record.
- Language: the language the company works in, which drives the language of its documents.
The VAT number is required.
When the wizard reports that a VAT number or an email address is already in use, that customer usually already has an account in Restomax, which is worth looking up first.
Store Information
The store is the physical location. New store is the flow here, Existing store is greyed out.

- Store Name is asked three times, once per language (FR, NL, EN). The small arrow beside the NL and EN fields copies the French name across, which is what a name that does not translate needs.
- Country, Address 1, Zip Code and City are required. Address 2 exists for a floor or a unit number.
The receipt, and the cash register itself

- Ticket Header: the block printed at the top of every receipt. The trading name, the address and the VAT number belong here.
- Ticket Footer: the closing line, for example "Thank you for your visit".
- Name of cash register: the name of the till, for example "Cash register 1" or "Bar".
- Layout type: the screen shape of the till. Landscape for a normal POS screen, Mobile portrait for a handheld, kiosk portrait for a standing kiosk.
Step 3: My Options
POS Type

- Restomax: the full point of sale, selected by default.
- Kitchenmax: the kitchen screen. It replaces the database section with KitchenMax Configuration and its single Enable online mode switch.
- Kiosk: the self-service terminal. It adds Kiosk configuration, with Enable cashless and Enable self-service both switched on.

Database Configuration
Where the till keeps its data. Standalone is the default, which is the right answer for a single till in a single store.

- Standalone: the till holds its own database. Nothing else to fill in.
- Server: this machine is the database server for the other tills in the store. It asks for the Server port.
- Client: this machine reads from another till acting as server. It asks for the Server IP and the Server port.

Business Category and Establishment Type
Two questions that together decide how the till is configured out of the box.
Business Category is Hospitality or Retail, and the choice changes the establishment types offered underneath:
| Category | Establishment types |
| Hospitality | QSR, Bar, Brasserie, Other |
| Retail | Retail, Other |
The establishment type sets the consumption types the till opens with. QSR, for instance, applies Eat in, Takeaway and Delivery. Whatever it applies appears in the summary at the bottom of the step.
Matrix template
The matrix is the till's product layout: the buttons, the pages, the prices.
- Create a new template: the normal answer for a new business, with a name in Matrix template name, for example "Brasserie Demo matrix".
- Choose an existing one: reuse a matrix that already exists, products included. The dropdown lists the templates the company already owns.
Applied Configuration, and Customize
The last card summarises what is about to be applied: the industry type, the matrix template about to be created, and the consumption types the establishment type implies.
Customize turns that summary into an editor:
- Entity template: copies the setup of an existing template entity, with Copy options and Duplicate all data deciding how much of it comes along.
- Consumption types: exactly what this till sells: Eat in, Takeaway, Delivery.
- Additional Options: Order management, for order handling on this till.
One thing to watch: the editor opens with its tick boxes empty rather than prefilled with what the summary showed, so anything left unticked stays unticked. Close returns to the summary.
Create license
Create license submits the whole thing. Restomax creates the company, the store, the cash register with its matrix template, and the demo license, then confirms that the license is ready.

The confirmation names the organisation, the entity, the store and the point of sale that were created, and carries the activation code for the device: as text with a copy button beside it, and as a QR code. The button underneath closes the wizard.
The new installation then appears in Licenses > Demo, with its creation date, the entity, the store and the VAT number it started from.
What one pass creates
For a Free installation:
| Object | Filled from |
| Company (entity) | The VAT lookup, plus the email and language added by hand |
| Store | Store Information, including the ticket header and footer |
| Cash register | Name of cash register, layout type, database configuration |
| Matrix template | Matrix template, seeded from the establishment type |
| Demo license | Listed under Licenses > Demo |
